hope everyone managed to enjoy the game against Thornaby and coped without my regular club craic update piece. Kev Mullen was having kittens! The man who oversees building schools from scratch...wrist slapped.

Anyway, I didn't go to Blyth but from reports and the 5 minute high (or maybe low) lights package by Blyth it may have been a good one to miss? A red card for the male model Kirkham and a missed Geordie kiss (headbutt) by tiny tempers seem to have been the main talking points. From what I'm told a point and goalless draw would have been about right which would have been a good result to big spending Blyth AFC. We lost 1-0 however to a preventable goal but another strong all round defensive performance on the road was a positive.

We then had another tough test against Penrith in the League Cup on Wednesday. Although we lost 4-1 it was a tight game until the Cumbrians scored 3 goals in the last 10 mins. John Murray scored 4 goals on the night. Sadly, it was the Penrith John Murray and the one our John Murray scored was a cross. Both Muzza and the Penrith keeper were confused and bemused by seeing the ball in the bottom of the net rather than on top of the net! Also, can someone speak to the Northern League about why they give away teams £4/mile petrol money...no team should be massively out of pocket for hosting a football match. That's how teams fold! Anyway..

We met Thornaby for the first time this season who have had a revival under new management and with a new playing squad and on a personal note, my only other club when I lived at home for 6 season. After receiving the all clear from the surgeon/specialist 2 days before the Thornaby match I was considering making myself available for selection. But, my old, sensible self got the better of me. I'm aiming for January!

It was absolutely baltic against Thornaby which may account for a high tempo game - the lads trying to stay warm on the pitch! A great game to watch with both teams going hammer and tongs and we edged it with a late Nick Quinn goal after Kris Allen was possessed by the footballing spirit of fat Ronaldo on a mazy run past half a dozen Thornaby defenders! Again on a personal note, I was buzzing. Couldn't hang about though as I had to go and get Parmo's from Boldon Asda for tea. I highly recommend them. Jeff the Chef - Chicken Parmo. Teesside delicacy.

Enjoy today's game. Daz. 6 weeks and counting!
